Cigarette Smoking



 Smokers are seems to be growing and growing despite the warnings given by the government. People now a day are much smarter and educated but despite of this, even though they know about the bad effect of smoking, they still continue. Others, doesn’t know how to quite.



There are over 4,000 chemicals that can be found in cigarette but many of which have not been tested with regard to the effects they have on the human body.

The lists below are some of the chemicals that can be found in cigarette:

1. Tar – not only stains your teeth, it is also the main cause of lung and throat cancer that results from smoking. About 70% of tar from cigarette smoke is deposited in the lungs.
2. Cyanide – used to make rat poison.
3. Arsenic – also used throughout history as an agent for murder and as the poison that kills in the gas chamber during executions.
4. Formaldehyde – used in the process of embalming to preserve dead bodies and has been classified as a human carcinogen. It also causes breathing and gastrointestinal problems.
5. Ammonia – found in household disinfectants like toilet cleaner and fertilizer. High levels of ammonia can cause lung damage and death.
6. Nicotine – this is the ingredient in cigarettes that causes addiction. It was once used in bug killer and is a deadly poison.  Small doses act as a stimulant to the brain. Large doses cause depression and inhibit nerve function.
7. Benzene – found in gasoline and is highly flammable. It is a known carcinogen and is associated with leukemia and other blood cancers. Breathing high enough levels of benzene can kill you while lower levels can cause drowsiness, rapid heart rate, headaches, tremors, confusion and unconsciousness. Drinking or eating benzene can cause vomiting, convulsions, and death. Long term exposure damages bone marrow, causes excessive bleeding and anemia, and depresses the immune system making you more susceptible to illness and disease.
8. Acetone – extremely flammable and the main ingredient in nail polish remover. Used as a superglue remover and degreaser. Inhaling acetone can cause liver damage and is fatal in large amounts. It has also caused liver, kidney, and nerve damage, as well as increased birth defects in animal studies.
9. Carbon Monoxide – a poisonous gas, rapidly fatal in large amounts. This is the exhaust that comes out of cars. Exposure can lead to toxicity of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and heart.

  • Cancer of the cervix
  • Cancer of the esophagus
  • Kidney cancer
  • Cancer of the larynx (voice box)
  • Lung cancer
  • Cancer of the oral cavity (mouth)
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Cancer of the pharynx (throat)
  • Stomach cancer

Other health conditions:
  • infertility,
  • preterm delivery,
  • stillbirth,
  • low birth weight, and
  • sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).1,8

1 Make an honest list of all the things you like about smoking.
2. Then make another list of why quitting won’t be easy.
3. Set a quit date
4. Write all your reasons for quitting on an index card
5. As you’re getting ready to quit, stop buying cartons of cigarettes
6. Keep a list of when you smoke, what you’re doing at the time, and how                       bad the craving is
7. Prepare a list of things to do when a craving hits.
8. When your quit date arrives, throw out anything that reminds you of smoking
9. Instead of a cigarette break at work, play a game of solitaire on your computer
10. Switch to a cup of herbal tea whenever you usually have a cigarette.
11. Switch your cigarette habit for a nut habit
12. Carry some cinnamon-flavored toothpicks with you
13. Make an appointment with an acupuncturist
14. Swing by the health food store for some Avena sativa (oat) extract
15. Think of difficult things you have done in the past.
16. To minimize cravings, change your routine
17. Tell your friends, coworkers, boss, partner, kids, etc.
18. if you relapse, just start again.
19. Put all the money you’re saving on cigarettes in a large glass jar.
20. Switch to decaf until you’ve been cigarette-free for two months.
21. Create a smoke-free zone.
22. Find a healthy snack food you
23. Picture yourself playing tennis.
24. Quit when you’re in a good mood.
25. Post this list in a visible location in your house


The reason why I included this topic here in my blog was simply because I care about the people whom I surrounded to, my family and to my extended family – society.  A simple reminder I think it, would be beneficial. 


If you are having hard time and wants to quit smoking, here is what I suggest:


First and foremost – PRAY!  Changing yourself alone is not enough you need the guidance of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.










Second – think of your loved ones. Isn’t that great that even when you are getting old, you’re still in good health? You can have more years spending your life with them.
